This is the first book from this author and it is rare to find a Christian book with characters that readers can relate to. Most Christians books have characters that are more fairytale then real life, but everyone from Issy, to Jason, to Jake, to Robbie, and her father are characters that can be found in real life. In fact, I wondered at first if what I was reading was Christian, but T.L. Gray created characters with "sin" like real people which really drew me into the story line. The only drawback I had was in the beginning when Issy's background was introduced, a few times I was lost when I had to put the book down and come back later, wondering where I was in her life. Other than that, I absolutely loved Issy and felt her pain when she was so helpless, and rejoiced when she made strides towards freedom.

Shackled Lily Winsor TL Gray 9781484042144 Books Reviews
This book was so intense, I thought I would get an ulcer. Things started out bad for Issy when, at 11 years old, she and her mother walked in on her father and his assistant naked in his desk. On her 13th birthday, Issy found her mother bleeding and near death in the bathtub. You would think things couldn't get much worse, but Issy's life went on a downward spiral. She drank excessively, among other things, to numb the pain in her heart. It kept getting worse and worse. I wanted to stop reading because I was so stressed out, but I had to persevere to get my HEA so I could relax. It took a LONG time for things to finally turn around for the better permanently, but there is a HEA in the end.
I enjoyed the Shackled Lily, the second book in the Windsor Series just as much as the first book. The book begins where Shattered Rose ended. Issy in the hospital, recovering from alcohol poisoning that almost killed her. Her life is complicated by divorced parents and an unstable mom that tried to kill herself. In hopes of getting Izzy back on track, her father brings her home from the hospital to recover. He is determined to make sure she does not screw up again. Izzy does not like being here, but is charmed by her dad's assistant, Grant, whom Issy has been head over heels for since she was 13. Izzy will have to make a decision on where her life goes from here. Between her selfish dad, her alcohol binging and her feelings for Grant she must decide the direction of her future. Will it be a better life or will she completely destroy it or let her father choose it for her?
A must read. T.L. Gray has a done a good job of portraying the reality and showing how people can change, even in the worst situations.
Wow, reading this novel has definitely been a roller-coaster of emotions. The story of Issy and Grant is one of patience, hope, redemption, renewal, and true love. Venturing through the psyche of Issy was very revealing. When starting this novel I knew that Issy was more than what was on the outside, but as I read through the novel my eyes have been opened, even more, to what neglect, abandonment, and self-loathing can do to a person.
The way Tammy L. Gray inserted other literature into this novel was well done. In doing so, Gray allowed for Issy’s way of mind to be portrayed on a higher level. A level in which the readers could understand what Issy truly felt.
Something I disliked about the novel would have to be the multiple kissing scenes. With certain characters and scenes, the kissing was a vital part to the progression of the story (you know what I’m talking about if you have already read it), but I often wondered if the kissing was just a filler or if something could have been said in substitution of the kissing.
(On a side note) One thing I admire about Tammy L. Gray, she does not soften the punches when it comes to showing the heartaches some people go through when abusing substances. Some people only see alcoholics or junkies, when sometimes there is more to the story than just an abuse of drugs and alcohol.
This was another wonderful read my Tammy L. Gray.
I read this trilogy out of order, reading the last book first and now the second book. I knew the ultimate outcome and instead of ruining this storyline for me, it made it all the more suspenseful. I knew how terrible the villains truly were and was waiting the whole book for the next awful thing to happen.
Two things I learned reading the series out of order. #1 These books are great stand alone books with a small amount of overlap. #2 I really love the authors edgy approach to the Christian genre.
This book is not the cheesy Hallmark love story of the perfect girl just waiting for the perfect guy (although, I love those kind as well). This book is about a broken girl who is being pursued by love, greed, lust, and most importantly, God. God isn't thrust upon the reader by scripture after scripture. It is a quiet kind of steadiness so that even readers who aren't Christian can be drawn into this love story. Most of the book shows a fairly dismal lifestyle. Don't give up on her or you will miss a beautiful ending.
Quite simply, one of the very best Christian books I have ever read. A marvel. I don't like the gratuitous sex scenes that drag on for pages in 'regular' novels, although I read a lot of those as well. I always have to pinch one eye closed and try to skip over pages of lusty descriptions, and STILL feel dirty, as a Christian. But, in most Christian novels, I just can't seem to relate to the characters, because they are too 'perfect' and unrealistic. This, THIS, book is wonderful. Nothing gratuitous, but enough heat between the main characters that it feels very realistic indeed, and the salvation experience too was 100% realistically depicted. I completely related to Issy. I too was once so lost that I attempted suicide several times, and abused alcohol mightily. When I finally surrendered to Christ (SPOILER ALERT), I felt the head-to-toe difference that is described in this book. The main character will frustrate you at times, but that, again, is realistic. She is worth rooting for, though, and stay with her to the end - you won't be disappointed.
This is the first book from this author and it is rare to find a Christian book with characters that readers can relate to. Most Christians books have characters that are more fairytale then real life, but everyone from Issy, to Jason, to Jake, to Robbie, and her father are characters that can be found in real life.
